  • I'm starting to think the university was concerned about lawsuits from HCJA in the event of a termination.

Hence the lawyers being at the meeting. And since we have had no concrete evidence I'm thinking there was an expectation of a wrongful termination suit that would come. WSU may have had enough witnesses from former athletes to win that case, but it could be very expensive. And if they lose then it would be a double whammy because they would owe the full contract amount.

The part I find most ridiculous is that ADES gave a contract extension after some of these allegations were being brought to him. If nothing else I would expect him to wait a while and see what unfolded before locking the university in like that.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Or the fact that I used the term quieter percentage to include myself and others like that me who aren't (or weren't) sure what or who to believe, so we stayed mostly quiet and just listened and read? I'd be happy to discuss my intent with you, if I was aware what it is that you're attempting to use as the basis for your insult.
I took it the way it came across. If your intent was different then I will just chalk it up to poor wording and use of an emoticon.

A neutral response would have been something like -- Yes, that is a possibility, but it is also possible that their is something to these allegations. I need more information to form an opinion one way or the other.

I do think you are neutral now after having listened to the audio recording. But you sure did not come across as neutral prior to that.

I've never been a college athlete, but I feel like this could happen at nearly any level. Yes, I have seen coaches that go well beyond being just tough or hardnosed coaches, to the point of being abusive, and I believe whole heartedly that those coaches should be disciplined accordingly. However, I've also seen athletes (along with their parents) who for whatever reason (lack of playing time, perceived favoritism, politics) had a personal agenda against a coach and when their agenda was not met by the school board, they took it as far as the state athletic association, where they were again proven to have invalid complaints. I do not know if HCJA is absolutely 100% guilty of what her accusers are saying, or if she is 100% innocent. I'm guessing it's somewhere in the middle and that none of us who weren't there will ever know what that actual percentage is one way or the other.
You can do that. I'll just chalk it up to someone reading a one line post with an emoticon, and automatically assuming the worst because the opinion stated may not 100% agree with his. This was my post a couple of days earlier that may explain my thought process better and leave a little less room for misinterpretation based on "poor wording and use of an emoticon."

        • Fair enough. You have my apologies. I apparently misinterpreted your post.

That is a bit of a head-scratcher and it unfortunately gives the perception of a win at all costs attitude by the Wichita State athletic administration. Even without the additional baggage regarding the issue of player treatment the deal ADES gave Jody Adams seemed perhaps overly-generous for a sport that produces such little revenue and fan interest. However, I think at that point Jody was clearly looking to find a job at a P-5 school as she had sought the Minnesota and Arkansas jobs. ADES and BE apparently wanted to do everything they could to retain Jody although I am fairly confident she would have taken the KU job if it had been offered to her recently. Now, considering the player treatment issues were a known, whether or not they should have cared if Jody moved on is another question.

But they did have concrete evidence. The university had this tape as well

              • Looks like Michaela and Moriah Dapprich will be transferring to the University of Omaha to finish up. Good luck to those young ladies. Hope they will find things more to their liking at Omaha and are able to complete their educations.

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's basketball will receive a big infusion of Division I Women's Basketball experience, as Michaela Dapprich, Moriah Dapprich, and Courtney Vaccher will all join UNO starting with the 2015-16 season. The trio will have to sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules before returning to the court in 2016-17.

They will join former Shocker Marissa Preston who transferred to Omaha last year after her freshman season.

Good for the Dap Sisters. I saw WSU had a twitter post of a party with the team at Jody's house. I only saw seven players. Is that our roster?

We have a roster of 10 (same as this past season) as far as I know. It is very possible that not all of the 3 incoming freshman and/or the 2 incoming juco transfers are not in town yet. We have 3 returning players, 2 transfers who sat out last year and then the 5 new players coming in.

I have not heard anything that would indicate anything has changed with that.

                    • Good luck to them in their future endeavors. I'm sure they will be successful in whatever direction they decide to go.

Was reading Michaela's bio, noticed that she is in the top 10 of two categories for WSU's women's bball program regarding records......this only adds to my concerns what this player has given up and the fact that she is not continuing her senior year of eligibility here at WSU..........I would say the same regarding "Triple-Decker"................this tape may be only a small window to what has been occurring in this program

                        • Michaela and Alie will certainly be missed. The Shocks were at their best when Michaela and Alie were knocking down perimeter shots and stretching the defense so our slashers Alex, Kelsey and Jamillah could more easily get inside the paint. Not sure whether we will have that perimeter capability next year or not. Michaela was also very good in the paint and was strong enough at 5-10 to compete effectively against many taller post players.

Not too mention that Michaela, Moriah, Alie and Kayla were all very fine young ladies and representatives of Wichita State. I am glad to see they are finding new homes where hopefully they will flourish.

I guess we are still waiting to see what happens with Alie. She is kind of an unusual situation. It is my understanding that she will complete her degree this summer while she still has 2-years of eligibility remaining. Therefore, she can use the graduate transfer exception to go a D-1 program and not have to sit out year. Getting two years of grad school paid for would be nice for Alie if she chooses to continue playing college ball and is interested in getting a grad degree which considering she is graduating in 3 years is most likely the case.

Considering that we have had numerous players that have come and gone before and after that audio recording was made that would seem to be the case.

If I have counted correctly 8 players (Michaela and Moriah Dapprich, Alie Decker, Kayla White, Valerierose Agnello, Marissa Preston, Briana Jones and Morgan Landers) have come and gone after that meeting.

Obviously, there were numerous players that had also left the program under Jody prior to the time that tape was made. We have heard from Samantha Smith in the Sunflower article for example but they were a number of others such as Krystle Henderson and Breanna Dawkins among others.

The complete list was on the earlier thread that was pulled.

I got confirmation this morning, that yes players were "ran off" and for several very disturbing reasons.

                              • I have no problem with Coaches moving players out of the program who aren't a good fit or who otherwise may be not be in line to play much. After all scholarships are a year-by-year. As often as not this kind of pruning happens regularly and without a lot of theatrics and it most often works out for both the player and the program. 3G's men's program is a good example of that.

There may be some of that going on in the women's program but it seems like there is an excessive amount of departure's under less than mutually respectful circumstances.

Getting this fixed, of course, is primarily on Jody but will also be a tough test for Darren Boatright in his new role as COO of the Athletic Department.
